As 2025 comes to an end, we refuse to forget how it began: with the murder of a young man, whose name we did not learn for many days, killed by a bullet of greek cypriot police. For many in Cyprus, these days are spent in a festive mood, surrounded by family and loved ones. For others this is not the case. Some among us are far away from their families and working during this time in order to make ends meet. This was also the case for Shoaib Khan from Pakistan, who came to Cyprus to help provide for his family, shot dead at 24 years of age. Almost a year after his death, we still know very little about the case, despite relentless efforts from his family and others in solidarity. Shoaib migrated abroad to ensure a better future for himself and his loved ones. This was cut short. While it is a profoundly unjust event, it is just another example of the inhumane border policies, systemic violence and racism that surround us. We refuse to forget. These days of coming together and celebrating, we stand in solidarity with those who mourn and we remember those who should have been with us but are not. {{tag> Condition:"Needs Translation":"Needs Turkish Translation" Groups:"Justice for Shoaib Khan (Group)" "Online Articles" "Decade:Decade 2020-2029" "Year:2025" Areas:"Undefined Location" }}
