call to a second open assembly

On 6.1.25, the police murdered Shoaib Khan. Yesterday, 19.1.25, following our initiative’s call, we marched in central Nicosia for justice and solidarity with migrants. The demonstration was the peak of a week of actions—hundreds of flyers, posters, banners, and stickers. It was a message to migrant communities: you are welcome in our city, and we will defend you against racist violence, from cops or otherwise.

But the protest and its message were buried under the provocative arrests of three comrades from afoa and the detention of a fourth. The arrests happened because exposing the police as murderers is considered “abuse.” After the march ended, cops ambushed protesters, threatened those who defended them, and bullied others into deleting videos from their phones. The arrested were later released with ridiculous charges.

The police kill, cover up, and try to intimidate those who resist through repression and arrests. If they think we'll stop talking about the fact that they murdered Shoaib Khan, they’re delusional. They remain incapable of defeating that which they cannot comprehend. Social and class struggles don’t bow to batons and laws. They exist because they are just—and they don’t wait for the police to dictate how, where, or with what words they will unfold.
