Statement of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cyprus

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cyprus, following the programme of the Communist International, which declares that the struggle against imperialism is the immediate and main problem of the working masses of Cyprus, since it is a colony of British imperialism, for the liberation of our island from the imperialist yoke, it is necessary to create within the anti-imperialist struggle the united front of all working nationalist and communist workers with the basic slogan of the abandonment of the island by Britain and the withdrawal of the British military and administrative forces.

The difference in the programmatic purpose of the nationalists (union with Greece) and the communists (Soviet republic) should not be an obstacle to the creation of the united anti-imperialist front, and this difference can be resolved after the withdrawal of imperialism from Cyprus.

The neutrality which the local organisations of the Communist Party have maintained up to now in the anti-imperialist uprising of the last few days is harmful. It objectively favours imperialism and is therefore condemned by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cyprus.

The Central Committee of the CPC calls upon all members of the Communist Party to lead the working masses and guide them in their anti-imperialist struggle, thus forging the united anti-imperialist front of all working classes.

The Central Committee of the CPC also invites all the working class nationalists to organise the united front, against the will of their leaders, who try to turn them against the Communist Party in order to cover up their faint-heartedness (Archbishop, former MPs) in the face of the anti-imperialist revolt of the working people.

Organise everywhere in the towns and villages an action committee to lead the anti-imperialist struggle after its abandonment by the “leaders” and the bankruptcy of the Political Organisation.

Let us all unite to DEMAND THE DEPARTURE OF IMPERIALISM, the 8-hour work shift, better wages and social security for workers, lower rents and taxes for professionals.

LONG LIVE THE UNIFIED ANTI-IMPERIALIST FRONT.

LONG LIVE THE LIBERATION OF CYPRUS FROM BRITISH IMPERIALISM.
