Mourn the dead, fight like hell for the living

Social Space Kaymakkin stands with the people of Palestine and Gaza against the brutal state violence and repression they have faced for decades. We are in solidarity with the victims and support the demands for an immediate end to the genocidal attacks by the Israeli state against the Palestinan people. We are also horrified by the slaughter of Israeli civilians by Hamas and we do not forget that people who act in the name of peace and coexistence in Israel face severe repression by the same Israeli government that has murdered thousands these past few days in Gaza.

Anger, violence and injustice bring more anger, violence and injustice, as we all know too well from our history in Cyprus, where intercommunal violence and war have impacted the physical and social geography of the island for decades. The spread of religious fanaticism and conservatism in Palestinian society is not the root cause of the conflict, but the consequence of the systematic violence they have faced for almost six decades. We stand with the Palestinians and their claim for a life of dignity and freedom, and with the Israelis fighting alongside them in the name of peace and justice.

We believe it is very important in this climate to amplify voices for peace and coexistence coming from the region, particularly those that work together across the lines of division and hate.

The community of Kaymakkin supports the demonstrations and events that stand with Palestinians and all those oppressed in our neighbourhood in the Middle East, across borders.

Today, Thursday 19/10, a demonstration is called by Gate 9 at PASYDY at 19:00.

On Friday at 18:30, the Cyprus Peace Council calls for a demo at Eleftherias Square.

Freedom for Palestine!

Freedom from state violence everywhere!
