Announcement towards migrant workers for the friday protest
Hello, friends, migrants and refugees of Cyprus, coming from all countries of the Global South: from North and Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, South and East Asia.
We are anti-racists, anti-fascists, anarchists, feminists, and syndicalists from Cyprus. We know how difficult it is for you to come here—the cost, the risks, the dangers everywhere. Police at the borders, airports, and sea; smugglers, mafia, and prisons.
We know how difficult it is to live here. Struggling to find housing, landlords refusing to rent to you, skyrocketing rental prices, constant problems with paperwork, dangers for your children, the burden of sending money back to your families.
We know how difficult it is to work here. Extremely low wages, sometimes unpaid. Everyone trying to take a cut of your earnings. High taxes with no health insurance. Terrible working conditions. Abusive bosses. Many of you are forced to work illegally because there is no other choice.
We know how unsafe it is to simply walk the streets. Racist abuse. The constant threat of attacks and theft—especially for delivery workers. For migrant women, the dangers are even greater: harassment, sexual exploitation by bosses, coworkers, men on the street, even other migrants. We know how difficult and dangerous it is for your children as well.
On February 7th at 19:00, the racist-fascist party ELAM (National Popular Front) is organizing a gathering at Anexartisias Street, Dioikitirio Square. They claim it is against “illegal migration,” but the truth is, it is a gathering against all migrant workers. They want you either deported or living as slaves—stripped of rights, working only for businesses, corporations, and the wealthy. Their supporters attack delivery workers. Their supporters smash and burn migrant-owned shops on the seafront. They act and think like Nazis.
We resist them because we believe that all people in Cyprus—locals and migrants—can live and work together in peace. The problem is not migrant workers but the political and economic elites—the rulers who create wars in your countries and exploit your resources. That is why we do not want fascists in our cities, in our neighborhoods, in Limassol, or anywhere in Cyprus. They are hateful liars who seek power by blaming you for society’s problems.
That is why, on February 7th at 19:00, we are calling for our own protest against fascism and racism at Molos.
We want to make it clear that racism is not normal. That migrant workers are part of the working class, standing together with locals. That solidarity and unity are our strength. Racism and fascism mean death for society.
We urge you to join us that day. But also, be careful. Inform your family, friends, and coworkers that fascists will be in Limassol and remain vigilant. Fear is understandable. But if you want to stand with us and resist, come to our protest—bring your community, your banners, your voice.
Together, we say: We stand united against racism and fascism!
